My dog freaks out when it rains, what should I do?

He starts barking and shaking before it rains. If there is lightning and thunder he goes absolutely crazy. If he is in his kennel he barks until I let him out, otherwise he will sit on my head or jump off and on the bed.

I had this conversation with a dog trainer earlier today! Sophylake is 100% correct. Coddling will only make it worse. Try deflecting the behavior by saying something like “silly dog” in a high pitched voice, everything is fine! I had made the mistake of coddling one of my dogs and had inadvertently trained her into being frightened of any storm.
